We acknowledge the Indonesian Government’s efforts to SDG and COVID-19 recoveries – such as the involvement of civil society and young people in the consultative process and strengthening policy reform on key areas. However, we still found glaring gaps between the Indonesia VNR report and the realities on the ground, especially the lack of inclusion of marginalized groups in the protection scheme for COVID-19 recovery and even in education and learning continuity. We stress that civil societies’ involvement should not be tokenistic and there should be concrete and accountable follow up actions to respond to the needs of the people, especially marginalized groups.

Therefore, we would like to raise the following:

  1. How does the Government of Indonesia ensure that the voices of communities in urban and rural areas – women, indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, older people, LGBTIQ, migrants, youth – are meaningfully engaged in all levels of SDGs processes and development?
  • How does the government ensure, improve, and utilize the updated and disaggregated data on sex, gender, age, and disability at the local to the national level in the implementation and monitoring of SDGs with respect to data protection?
  • What is the Government’s plan to increase and secure a gender-responsive budget for education, strengthen the capacities of schools to implement health protocols to guarantee safe re-opening, and provide equitable and inclusive access of all learners, especially the marginalized and out-of-school, to quality education and learning continuity amidst the pandemic?
  • How does the government assure, promote, and strengthen collaborative actions in efforts to recognize a clean, healthy, and safe environment, reform the resiliency and food systems, and people-oriented and gender-responsive sustainable development for the carbon-neutral commitment based on the Paris Agreement?

The NGO Coalition to End Violence and Harassment in the World of Work calls the attention of all endorsing NGOs to ILO’s Global Action Week to promote the ratification of the Convention No. 190 on violence and harassment, which will take place from June 21 – 29. (The events on June 22 and June 29 will be closed meetings). To register for the other meetings, kindly visit : https://www.ilo.org/global/topics/violence-harassment/news/WCMS_793450/lang–en/index.htm?fbclid=IwAR2ueyuY9qWhL_SZi7YghC_dYzhtauJuRR2FPEaVFjwuEuuJLPkJxEbjBRc

On behalf of the NGO Coalition to End Violence and Harassment in the World of Work, we extend our deep appreciation to organizations that have endorsed the Advocacy Letter to ratify ILO Convention 190. We are excited to share that 551 civil society organizations have already endorsed the letter.

We invite your organization to endorse the Advocacy Letter to ratify the ILO Convention 190. The deadline for endorsement has been extended to 31 August. Sign-on is open to all civil society organizations.

The NGO Coalition is an initiative of four substantive committees of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO): the NGO Committee on Financing for Development, the NGO Committee on the Status of Women (NY), the NGO Committee on Social Development and the NGO Committee on Migration, in partnership with the NGO Committee to Stop Trafficking in Persons.

The letter will remain as attached and will be addressed to the Member States. Uruguay and Fiji have ratified the convention. Having secured the required two ratifications by June 2020, the Convention will enter into force one year later, on June 25, 2021. Your support is crucial to advancing universal ratification of Convention

During our First Meeting of the INSAS We’ve the opportunity to contribute to FAO INSAS Work Plan here’s a partial of our contribution we have requested more attention to “Bangladesh”
Salinity intrusion and increased salinity in water and soil have serious negative impacts on agriculture and food security as well as human health all over the world. It also results in the low-calorie intake and chronic malnutrition of coastal people in underdeveloped and developing countries like Bangladesh. As a result, malnutrition affects human health. Not only malnutrition but also drinking saline water affects human health, which is experienced all over the world in the last decades. Besides malnutrition, deforestation and loss of vegetation due to soil salinity damage both respiratory health as well as mental health of the human being.
Salinity is increased particularly in the dry season and coastal populations are exposed via the drinking water in some river deltas. However, the effects of higher salinity on health are seen in those low-income countries, where water is insufficiently treated or not treated at all. But exposure to high salinity can happen not only through drinking water but also through other indirect routes such as cooking, bathing, and occupation.
Many studies have reported a range of health problems due to increased salinity exposure (through drinking, cooking, and bathing) among coastal populations that include hypertension and miscarriage among pregnant women, skin diseases, acute respiratory infection, and diarrheal diseases.

We write in opposition to S. 4897, the American Nuclear Infrastructure Act of 2020, which is scheduled for mark-up on December 2, 2020. The provisions in this bill would misdirect vital government, financial, and industrial resources to an uneconomical, environmentally unjust and harmful set of technologies. If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that we must marshal our national resources to address structural inequities and injustices that undermine our safety, health, economic security, and sustainability

Working with ECOSOC: A NGOs Guide to Consultative Status

http://csonet.org/content/documents/ECOSOC%20Brochure_2018_Web.pdf

Water accounting and auditing for better water governance
Water underpins many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), not least those relating to Zero Hunger and Clean Water and Sanitation. Unfortunately, achieving these objectives by 2030 will be a challenge.

http://www.fao.org/3/cb2227en/cb2227en.pdf

Overcoming water scarcity with sustainable irrigation
Irrigated agriculture occupies about 20 percent of total cropland but generates more than 40 percent of total production in terms of value. The higher productivity in irrigated areas relative to rainfed agriculture is due to higher and more stable yields, more intensive cropping and the cultivation of high-value crops.

http://www.fao.org/3/cb2226en/cb2226en.pdf

Upscaling innovative rainwater management in rainfed agriculture
Rainfed production dominates agriculture, covering about 80 percent of total cropland and accounting for more than half of the world’s food production. It is thus central to ensuring access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food for all people all year round, and to eradicating all forms of malnutrition (Sustainable Development Goal 2 Targets 2.1 and 2.2).

PLEASE: Read our Chair Dr. Godspower

The hand of the diligent shall rule!

My joy knew no bounds on my successful completion of a procedure I once thought was cavier to the generals.

Now, the seemingly difficult and yet common-place procedure in O&G called caeserean section is now cake walk.

Back in the days when I saw it being done for the first time, the sight of strong men tugging at each other with the anterior layers of the abdominal wall of a woman drapped in supine position, clenched snugly in the palms of the surgeons was very dreadful.

This is an experience I can’t forget in a hurry; that I saved the life of a teenager who presented with hand prolapse + intrauterine fetal death.

Thanks to all my teachers, in particular to Dr. Ogunyele Tirimidhi
